“If The Kids Are United” (Sham 69 Cover) (Video)


    We’ve already heard Dam-Funk’s attempt at channeling the Human League earlier today, now here’s a chance to witness the Duke Spirit take on the Sham 69 punk classic “If the Kids Are United.” The band performed this song as part of the same Dr. Martens campaign that Dam-Funk is involved with, which also includes work by the Noisettes and future contributions from the Ravonettes and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.


    The Duke Spirit has taken the raucous punk of the original track and slowed it right down into a mournful torch song of sorts. It’s unlikely this is what Sham 69 frontman Jimmy Pursey had in mind when he penned the furious ode back in 1976, but you can compare and contrast the two versions (and believe me, it’s a big contrast) in the clips embedded above and below.
