A new series of the reliably eclectic Later…with Jools Holland began in the U.K. this week, and the opening show featured performances by Paul Weller, Marina and the Diamonds and Hot Chip. The latter were swamped by old analog keyboards and a steel drum for their performance of two songs from One Life Stand.
Hot Chip aren’t much to look at—unkind people may even say they’re a bit of an eyesore—but they make up for it with their compelling, groove oriented, well-drilled live renditions of these tracks. And “I Feel Better” features the best use of steel drum in song since Jane’s Addiction’s “Jane Says.”
