“Hoppin’ Over Fences”

When he’s not skateboarding, pretending to imitate the Doors with N.E.R.D. or selling motocycles, Pharrell occasionally makes his own music, as you may recall. And he does a not-half-bad job at it, too.

“Hoppin’ Over Fences” is pretty much just Pharrell repeating the song title over a threatening rhythm section and a killer organ. It opens with the sound of a skateboard and, really, sounds like it would be a great track for a movie montage. And it is — this was originally used to soundtrack MTV star Rob Dyrdek’s movie Street Dreams. This is a good example of how Pharrell can make pretty solid music without much effort or fanfare.
