Hip Hop Saved My Life (Video)

Lupe Fiasco just released his second video "Hip Hop Saved My Life" from the critically-acclaimed album The Cool. The song and video, shot in Houston, honors Bun B and Slim Thug, both featured in the video. It tells the story of a young man struggling in the streets of Houston to make a career for himself as a rapper.

    Lupe says:

"With ‘Hip Hop Saved My Life’ I tried to make ‘Kick Push’ but for rappers. To give a real basic play-by-play of the life of a rapper before he makes- if he ever makes it because you can get stuck in that and be trying to make it for the rest of your life."

Lupe decided to tell his story in the context of the Houston rap scene, where some of the best Southern rappers have originated , from UGK to The Geto Boys. " It’s based on Slim Thug" he says, "..but I dedicated the song to Bun [B]." [MTV]
