High Places have never issued a video before, but that’s all changed with the release of their “I Was Born” single on Thrill Jockey. The relocated band, who made the leap from Brooklyn to Los Angeles, have been quiet since leaving the city that never sleeps—perhaps they were catching up on some shut-eye?
“I Was Born” features singer Mary Pearson’s bassoon skills, and a few guitar lines make a surprising appearance. Clearly, the new High Places material is going to be a step away from the sound that made their name, but that’s most definitely a good thing if the slow, languorous, and quite beautiful groove of “I Was Born” is an indication.
