It seems like Harry Fraud has produced for anyone who's anyone in hip-hop's contemporary climate (French Montana, Smoke DZA, Curren$y, Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa... you get the idea), so it was only right he lent his sought-after sound to Das Racist MC-on-the-solo-come-up, Heems.
For "Cowabunga Gnarly," the latest and brilliantly-titled track from the Queens rapper's upcoming Wild Water Kingdom project, Fraud spring loads hi-hats into a wall of skewed samples and cushioned bass, which makes for an extremely erratic and wholly exciting outcome. Himanshu's rapping is a little more concentrated than we're used to, but it hardly detracts from the enjoyment—there are comical leftfield references aplenty here ("You starving, fam, I go Darvin Ham/ I'm Marvin Hamlisch, yo I'm the man").
Wild Water Kingdom is out Nov. 1 via Greedhead.
