Hawthorne Headhunters: "If You Were My Baby (Reprise)" & "Teleport"

The quartet-turned-duo of Hawthorne Headhunters came together two years ago when rapper-producer Black Spade ventured from St. Louis to Southern California in search of inspiration. While there, he formed the psych-soul outfit with producers I,Ced and Proh Mic and singer Coultrain, whose sometimes-wobbly vocals are a great complement to their equally bouncy production style.

In the ensuing years, which included the release of eponymous EP, Proh Mic and I,Ced left the group to focus on solo endeavors. Following their departure, the remaining Headhunters crafted a full album's worth of material. Although we won't be hearing Myriad of Now until 2012, the duo has dropped a new single, "If You Were My Baby," to hold us over. It's a must listen for fans of Dam-Funk, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and the weirder moments of Erykah Badu and D'Angelo. Their collective influence is heavily heard here, particularly on the reprise of "If You Were My Baby," a sexy space romp.

Stream the single below. Myriad of Now drops next year.
