Wolf Parade may have put out a record a mere three months ago, but guitarist Dan Boeckner didn’t let that prevent him from going off and working on some new Handsome Furs material. Apparently that attractive band is cutting a new album that will be out in the near future called Face Control, and the band premiered a pair of new songs on the University of Minnesota’s Radio K when they were there in August for a show at First Avenue.
“Legal Tender” is the most interesting: it uses the same guitar-programmed beats construction as Plague Park, but it finds Boeckner more insistent, yelling, “All these things that mean nothing to me” over and over. The other new track, “Thy Will Be Done” shows off Boeckner’s guitar heroics over a near hip-hop beat doled out by his wife Alexei Perry. Both tracks seem fastr and more flexible than Plague Park, which sometimes moved at too-slow and unchanging paces.
