This collaboration with Usher, along with the two Mariah remixes, just has to be further proof that Gucci is trying to break out of his Southern rap world and come for a much larger, Lil Wayne/Kanye type notoriety. Because of the languid, synth-y beat, the roles on "Spotlight" definitely feel like they should be reversed, and it's maybe unfortunate that Gucci sounds a little like he's doing an OJ Da Juiceman impersonation on the track (which is goofy, because OJ Da Juiceman's whole career is a Gucci Mane impersonation). But none of that matters. If even one 15-year-old hears this and goes "Ooh Usher!, but who's Gucci Mane?," then Gucci will have prevailed.
