There couldn’t be a more perfect choice for Pitchfork’s Cemetery Gates series than Grizzly Bear. The boys perform a version of “Foreground” from Veckatimest, which is a typically haunting, typically downbeat piece of melancholia that echoes round the chapel walls.
The song is driven by Dan Rosen’s tender Rhodes piano and Ed Droste’s hushed vocals, and the clip is full of close-up shots of various stained glass windows. At times, “Foreground” barely even exists at all, but it’s exactly the right song for such a somber setting.
