Jimmy Kimmel’s show likes to mix things up when it comes to delivering live music performances, and last night (Sept. 13) may have been their most audacious coup yet. This performance of Green Day’s “Last of the American Girls” was shot at the New Meadowlands stadium, and featured an intro from Kimmel on the stadium’s jumbotron.
The gig was recorded during the half-time show in the Jets game yesterday, and includes many of the cast members currently starring in Green Day’s American Idiot Broadway musical. It’s certainly an odd performance, with acres of empty pitch behind the band members and a select band of fans all in matching T-shirts in front of them. Now Kimmel needs to make this a regular booking and foist some weedy indie rock onto the New Meadowlands masses.
