Things rarely move fast in a Great Lake Swimmers tune, but there is a momentum to this new song from their upcoming album, Lost Channels. It still rests on the atmospheric plucking of Tony Dekkar's guitar, and his deeply echoed vocals. But his breathy delivery does sound like he's trying to slow down the lean but persistent percussion behind him. And the beautiful female vocals that lilt into the background do seem to be calling after Dekkar as he's swept away by something he can't figure out. The more he sings the title line, in fact, the more lost Dekkar sounds. So while "Everything Is Moving So Fast" finds Great Lake Swimmers mining ghostly folk territory that is similar to what we've heard before, the background singers and fever dream mood of this song find them inching out into new sounds just enough to pack a few new surprises.
