Grass Widow: "Fried Egg" (Video)

· by

The last time San Francisco trio Grass Widow played in New York City was in the sprawling fields of Prospect Park, where they opened for Sonic Youth and charmed just about everyone with their infectious harmonies and raw punk rock spirit. The band has an excellent new album out titled Past Time, and this video for “Fried Egg” has been shoved out by way of promotion.

Our Matthew Fiander calls it the “most fully realized song of the bunch” in his review of the full length record, and it offers a great demonstration of what Grass Widow does best—delicate, Raincoats-esque guitar lines, that slip onto the verge of beautiful discordance and are matched by the enchanting vocal interplay between the band members. This goofy, thousand-mile-an-hour video makes an odd counterpart to the bittersweet nature of the song, but don’t let that put you off exploring the songs of this highly promising group.
