Yet another product of Philadelphia's now-thriving hip-hop scene, and the newest addition to the Fool's Gold roster, GrandeMarshall is making waves. You'll understand exactly why after watching his new video.
A cover of an Erykah Badu classic and released just before his debut mixtape, 800, back in August (but not included), "Thuggin Shidd Pt. II" is equal parts jazz and hip-hop, blanketed in a warm cloud of drug rap—a stark contrast to his aforementioned project, which has been pigeonholed by many as "Trillectro" (yeah, as in the Festival).
The accompanying visuals to this joint are just as smooth, inviting us into his kitchen-come-smoke parlour before walking us around his harsh surroundings—an environment on which he ponders with astute maturity: "In this life that we live they say it's kill or be killed/ That's why I stress to my pops I gotta get me some steel," he opens.
Take it from us (and every other major site covering this kid), GrandeMarshall is a name for the proverbial "ones to watch" list. Vibe out to "Thuggin Shidd Pt. II" below and peruse his 800 mixtape over on SoundCloud.
