The words “bedroom pop” has been tossed around in heaping spoonfuls in recent years; thanks to affordable and ever-portbale technology, musicians are able to bypass booking a fancy studio and record in almost any space within their budget. In the case of Finland’s Cats of Transnistria, their music was literally created in a bedroom. Comprised of Tuomas Alatalo and Henna Emilia Hietamäki, the Helsinki-based duo’s sound conjure an evocative and serene nocturnal imagery of the scarce daylight season, with windy tremors seeping into the chasms, lulling the listener into a dreamland.
Cats of Transnistria will be releasing an EP in January 2015 via Soliti. In the meantime, stream, download, and watch the video (made by Sofia Okkonen) for the lead single, “Good Night”. ” According to the band: “The song is about the beautiful details one should think about when trying to get some sleep. Instead of all the brutal difficulties it is good to, for example, imagine still lakes and velvet green leaves shivering in trees.”
