San Francisco narco-rockers Girls, led by 2009’s most famous ex-cultist Christopher Owens, are releasing another single off their widely celebrated debut Album next week, and it features as a b-side cover of 1960s country chanteuse Skeeter Davis’s “The End of the World.” Where the original sways in a kind of lovely death dance that is all gorgeous restraint and cryptic longing, Girls bathe the item in their characteristic haze, burying Owens’ vocals low in the mix and inching the thing forward with languid, barely-there drums. The drowsy rendition should provide an interesting contrast to the single’s a-side, “Morning Light,” a MBV-style pounder that was one of Album’s most aggressive moments. The single drops February 22, and “The End of the World” is available for download over at GorillavsBear.
I'm losing it. I mistyped the the title. Sorry Wilson. It's fixed now.
