This video clip is definitely more palatable for at-work Internet users than one of the most recent efforts by Girls, the San Francisco band who blew up last year off the back of their Album album. Here, they perform at Waterloo Records in Austin, Texas, which is soon to be overwhelmed by attendees of SXSW.
This version of “Hellhole Ratrace” from Album is a slow burner, and serves to show off the introspective flipside to the band, which runs in marked contrast to their “Lust for Life” frivolity. The song builds to a noisy, shoegazer-y finale, which generates appreciative cheer from the gathered masses.
Nice version.
