Geraldine (Live in a stairwell in Sweden) (Video)

Glasvegas are the latest band nourishing themselves at the teat of the NME’s hype machine, riding the hype to a bunch of album sales for their self-titled debut. Lead singer James Allan was filmed for Swedish web-show PSL doing the band’s single, “Geraldine,” by a staircase in London, and the song strikes me (at least in this version) as a rootsy ballad that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Wilco or a Walkmen record. The original version is soaked in reverb and epic on purpose histrionics, so it’s nice to hear the song removed of all of that baggage. [Pitchfork]
