The 8-bit orchestra is a gimmick that is beginning to run its course. Though with “Superlifer” NYC outsider electronic artist Gary War manages to breathe some new life into the genre like a kid blowing the dust out of an NES cartridge. The track, the first off the upcoming album Jared’s Lot, is filled with pulsing synth hums, frantic drum-machine beats, and bright shimmery laser bursts. The whole thing could be the soundtrack to the final boss battle in some early 90s RPG. Jared’s Lot is due out July 24 on Spectrum Spool.
