Andy Falkous is up to his old trick again. Dude has always loved name-dropping some guy none of us know (here that guy is a "Rick") and clubbing us over the head with crunching guitars and bellowing bass set to "blunt force." But while there's plenty of older sounds Falkous, it's not all retread for Future of the Left. The guitars build and take on a cinematic size that pushes past their usual concrete slamming, giving the song a scope to match its enormous energy. And despite the esoteric title, the melody Falkous delivers that phrase with is awfully catchy, even if it's still delivered in Falkous' cockney shriek. "Arming Eritrea" is from Future of the Left's forthcoming sophomore album, Travels With Myself and Another. And if the snarling power of this song is any indication, this album may be the most compelling way to make your ears bleed in 2009 (unless you count the aural stigmata that will be happening at those Creed reunion shows).
Travels With Myself and Another is out June 23 on 4AD. [Pitchfork]
