The glorious pop-noise of Fuck Buttons has left people either reaching for earplugs or willfully abandoning their hearing this year. Street Horrrsing is one of the best albums of 2008, and the band is currently assaulting eardrums across North America on a joint tour with Mogwai. Prior to the tour the band played with legendary DJ/remixer Andrew Weatherall in London, at a free show in the new Rough Trade store.
Weatherall sprinkles some of his magic across “Sweet Love for Planet Earth” here, turning the song into a club-friendly crowd pleaser by welding a propulsive beat and distorted handclaps to the dissonant noise cooked up by Andrew Hung and Benjamin Power. If any band is going to bring noise to the masses it’s likely to be Fuck Buttons, and Weatherall’s pop makeover only edges them further toward such unknown territory.
Sick remix.
