The dance-inflected sounds of England’s Friendly Fires are seeping into the mainstream in their native country. Sales of the recently released Pala look set to outstrip their eponymously titled debut record, and they showed up on Jools Holland’s show last night (May 24) to play a couple of tracks from it. “Live Those Days Tonight” was the first single from the album and demonstrates their fondness for filtering solid post-punk grooves through a steely electronic backbone. Is the guitarist playing his instrument with a humidifier at one point? Looks like it. The performance was completed with a version of the Pala cut “Hawaiian Air” (below).
