Free Energy is an interesting case. They're playing music in 2010, but their music sounds like Thin Lizzy circa 1976--and their frontman looks like Evan Dando circa 1992. But throw their debut on at the right time, and all temporal associations fade away: this is, simply, great rock music, and specifically great rock music to get drunk with your friends to.
This performance, of album opener (and band theme song) "Free Energy", feels a little sterile for a band so possessed of the ancient spirit of rock. It might have something to do with the sterile environment they're performing in: as far as I can tell, the only people feeding of Free Energy's abundant energy in that room are Spinner cameramen.
