Free Energy: "Bang Pop" (Video)

· by

Tanget Alert: Ok, am I the ONLY ONE who thinks Philadelphia's Free Energy sounds exactly like Third Eye Blind? Seriously, their mid-tempo pop rock compares easily to TEB's Blue, and Free Energy's vocals are a dead ringer for Stephan Jenkins' (minus, of course, the random bouts of falsetto that we all tried to match while singing along to "Semi-Charmed Life"). I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just saying it's a...thing.

Ok, now that's over, what's going on in this video? Well, it's an obvious homage to Fast Times At Ridgemont High what with the fashion statements, party-atmosphere and nudity (censored in this case). Also, we're led to believe that the members of Free Energy could, maybe, slip nonchalantly into a typical high school classroom despite their age ala Drew Barrymore in Never Been Kissed. They smoke weed in the girls' bathroom, apparently have a key to the girls' locker room, and have access to a bubble machine. And, in the beginning of the video, you can see their teacher's name is Ms. Mycock (hur hur hur hur).

But, the track's the same hook-laden catchy thing Free Energy is know for, and, though it doesn't immediately come across as an anthem to teenage rebellion, it's pretty great part music.
