Freddie Gibbs: "Slammin'" (Maker Remix)
We heard the original take on "Slammin'" back in February, when I big-upped this Gary, Ind. native for his gangsta bars and unique voice amidst a sea of similar-sounding MCs. And since then, track after track has leaked from Freddie Gibbs' much anticipated Str8 Killa No Filla mixtape, which will now drop along with an EP. Not to be outdone, apparently Stones Throw's newest imprint, Innovative Leisure Records, wants to get in on the Gibbs fun. The label is releasing the Playa 12" that features three new takes on the title-track along with a remix of "Slammin'" by Maker. The Chicago producer's version of the cut turns it into a much friendlier, bouncer tune that should be getting all sorts of play in car systems this summer.
