Freddie Gibbs and a bevy of guests (Chuck Inglish, Chip Tha Ripper, Bun B and Black Keys' Dan Auerbach) extol the virtues of being rich and smoking blunts in the video for Gibbs' "Oil Money." Auerbach doesn't actually appear, but his somber chorus provides bookends to strong verses all around. The video is pretty lowkey, mostly consisting of all the rappers just hanging by a storefront in a SUV. It didn't really occur to me until now that Gibbs is sort of the new version of Bun B in that both are workman in their approach, just hell-bent on chronicling life in their specific regional enclaves (Houston and Gary, Ind.). Though Gibbs has more fire right now, obviously.
Gibbs' Str8 Killa is out now.
