Anyone who proclaims Gary, Indiana critical darling Freddie Gibbs as 2009's premier rookie rapper clearly has not heard Playboy Tre. Which isn't an affront to Gibbs; on "Womb 2 the Tomb," he and fellow newcomer Pill (who sounds like Plies, except talented) wax tongue-twisted, gangstafied conceit over a damp, eerie organ riff and howling soul sample. The track is every bit as somber as a drive through Gary's vacant streets. [Fader]
playboy tre is definitely not a better rapper than freddie gibbs
word
That seems to be the general consensus, but I don't quite agree. Freddie's material doesn't resonate emotionally the way Tre's does. And "I Ain't Runnin'" and "Oh My Lord" are two of the year's best tracks, without question.
Freddies better than Tre hands down. Dont think so? Litsen to his mixtapes..Still dont think so?...go get your ears checked!
