One of the ironies of blog-rap is that many of the tracks by the best blog-rappers (Yelawolf, B.o.B., etc.) won't probably be heard in any context away from a computer screen, when many of them deserve to be bombing out car speakers and rattling trunks. Case in point: "C.H.L.," a horn-y, booming track, from Gary, Indiana's Freddie Gibbs, that deserves to be played while riding in a 1995 Oldsmobile Ciera after midnight. The letters stand for cops, hoes, and labels, three things keeping Freddie down, apparently, while he drops verses in between their come-ons. It's a solid track from a likely excellent mixtape (Straight Killa No Filla) that Gibbs is finishing right now. Listen at Pitchfork.
