Scots rockers Franz Ferdinand are having some well-documented problems following up their 2005 album You Could Have It So Much Better. The record has been put back to 2009, but the band is offering a preview of its new material in the shape of the song “Lucid Dreams,” which is streaming for a limited time here. The song is filled with vinyl-like crackles, presumably to deter downloaders from flinging the track all over the internet (which will probably happen anyway). The song bears much of the early Franz hallmarks, such as chant-along vocals and a disco-punk stomp from drummer Paul Thomson. The vaunted new electronic direction of the band is nowhere to be heard, and according to NME the song “is in contention to appear on the band’s new album.”
I like the track enough, but I'm not blown away either.
Mediocre pop at best. Remind me how this band was all the rage of 2004?
Can't think of a reason, Ethan. Your guess is as good as mine.
It was because of people my age.
