Four Tet: "Angel Echoes" (Caribou Remix)
The original version of "Angel Echoes" is a bright, lightly drifting piece of chopped up vocals and a constantly thudding beat. Caribou's take on the song shows what happens when the dark clouds roll in. The vocal samples from the original are kept intact, but the sinister onslaught of synths that roll in, pull back, and then surge forward even stronger pump an element of panic into things. There are times when the entire thing threatens to lose all sense of rhythm, but then snaps right back to attention, pushing the normally methodical and neatly pieced together Four Tet sound to its breaking point.
