Flying

Fear of Flying (Video)

The clutter-free arrangement and soaring melodies of "Fear of Flying" are new for Brooklyn's weirdo pop band Flying, and the clean digs suit them just fine. Jonathan Kendler's video treatment of the track -- taken from Flying's brilliant new album Faces of the Night -- fits the humble majesty of the song just dandily. Stark black 'n white animated images hint at the strange imagery of the song; every character in this movie-within-a-movie looks sad, resigned, ready to dig into that bleached white desert sand. The video plays up the song's loneliness, and yet there is some minor hope in its beauty, in that sad of understanding on the kid's face at the end. Final line: "If you are a mother, if you're a friend/Let me go in the hope that someday I'll be something." Oh my.

Faces of the Night will be released on February 19th on Menlo Park Recordings.
