Flying Lotus: "Golden Axe" (Live on BBC Radio 1)

You know that band Flying Lotus has been performing with over the past year that includes bassist Stephen "Thundercat" Bruner? Yeah, the one that's called Infinity, or stylized as ∞. Well, they apparently were over in London today for a three-song set on Gilles Peterson's BBC Radio 1 show and decided to debut a new track from FlyLo. Called "Golden Axe," it's a sprawling piece of beauty that builds and unfolds over the course of six minutes. The cut is definitely one of the producer's more less-straightforward affairs, though calling any of his music "straightforward" is a bit of a stretch. Particularly great here is Thundercat's bass, which becomes absolutely hypnotizing toward the end.

You can stream "Golden Axe" below. An interview, "Tea Leaf Dancers," which features Andreya Triana, and "MmmHmm" are also included in the stream.

This session is fantastic. I'm kicking myself for not taking every measure possible to see FlyLo this year.

Times like this I wish I didn't live in Korea. This set's so big it became todays Single Serving, the first live set to be added. http://single-serving.blogspot.com/2010/12/thursday-9th-december-flying-lotus-live.html
