Florence Welch brought her Machine to Jimmy Kimmel’s show last night (Nov. 5), where she performed “Rabbit Heart” from her Lungs album. It’s been a remarkable year for Welch, who has risen from obscurity to platinum album sales and a Mercury Music Prize nomination in her native U.K.
This performance demonstrates exactly why she has become so popular—it’s a coffee table, yuppie-fied mix of predictable cues snatched from rock and soul history, with Welch’s vocals occasionally resembling the ghastly shrieking of Cranberries’ singer Dolores O'Riordan. Yes it really is that bad.
