Final Fantasy: "E is For Estranged" (Video)

Owen Pallet, aka Final Fantasy, though perhaps better known for the orchestral arrangements behind artists such as Arcade Fire, the Last Shadow Puppets and Beirut, will be releasing his third album, Heartland, under the FF moniker next year. To whet our appetite, he performed “E is For Estranged” on IFC’s “Dinner with the Band,” which airs tonight. In the clip he showcases his talent to create an amazing amount of sound for one man and a violin. For the album version, the density reaches symphonic scale with the help of a 50-piece orchestra in Prague. In an interview with Stereogum, Pallet had this to say about Heartland: “While writing it, I kept an image in my head of putting so many notes on the page that the paper turned black.” Wow, that’s a lot of notes! The follow-up to the 2006 Polaris Prize winner He Poos Clouds is scheduled for release Jan. 12 on Domino.
