Fierce Creatures strives to be a band without limitations, and since its inception in 2009, the Fresno, California-based outfit has been proving this sentiment. Instead of nailing down a specific genre, the septet prefers to pursue a song wherever it leads.
Though guitar and keys generally drive the songs, instruments like the mandolin, harmonica and bells accentuate the sound and allow the tunes to soar to new levels. In 2010, the seven-piece self-produced and self-released its debut EP, I Mostri Feroci. The experimental outfit is currently gearing up for the release of its debut full-length, Catacomb Party, which is set for a September 11 release via Paper Garden Records.
Today, we are happy to premire "Babbity Abbot," off the aforementioned album. The track fortifies the notion that Fierce Creatures does not restrict itself. Beginning with a somewhat melodic, somewhat disjointed instrumental intro, this song is captivating from the start. Frenetic instrumentation and muffled vocals lead the tune as it chugs along a loose track of pyschedelic art-pop.
