The third album by English indie rockers Field Music is in stores now, and the band has assembled a Dada-esque collage of imagery to promote the record via the song “Let’s Write a Book.” It’s visually and musically reminiscent of the Art of Noise’s ‘80s classic “Close (To the Edit),” and works as a neat homage to those primitive sampling days.
In fact, this is exactly the kind of oddball fringe pop tune that would have snuck into the lower reaches of the charts in the past, ultimately confusing, entrancing and influencing an entire generation of teens. Sadly, that probably won’t happen to “Let’s Write a Book,” but judging from the scope of their ambition here, Field Music are a band that deserve a much wider audience.
