“Feminine Effects”

    Gender roles have always played a part in Kevin Barnes’ material as of Montreal. After all, he wrote an album (Skeletal Lamping) and a half (side 2 of Hissing Fauna) from the perspective of a man who had a female, black, soul-singing alter ego. This song, “Feminine Effects” actually has its roots in those sessions; it was first heard during a 2007 set for Minnesota Public Radio. This recorded version of that song will be seeing physical release as of Montreal’s contribution to a split 7″ with Deerhoof. This is a patient, rich track that fits neatly in with the emotional narrative of the aforementioned records. Check it out below. [BPM]
