Coldplay’s cover of R.E.M. staple “Everybody Hurts” clearly could not have come at a more perfect time. The alt-rock stalwarts called it quits last week after more than three decades together, though apparently we’ll be hearing some new music from them in November on a(nother) greatest hits compilation. To show their appreciation for one of their favorite bands of all time, Coldplay performed a pretty great take on “Everybody Hurts” last night at the Music Midtown 2011 festival in Atlanta. It might have been a slightly more moving performance had they been in Athens, Ga. — R.E.M.’s hometown — but hey, Atlanta isn’t that far away.
You can watch the performance below.
