Evan Voytas, when not working on his own solo stuff, is part of the live band for monster producer Flying Lotus, so you know dude knows his way around a breakbeat or two. However, the closest Voytas gets to FlyLo's batshit blown out electronics on "I Took A Trip On A Plane" is in the track's woozy, slightly off-kilter sense of rhythm. Otherwise, it's almost the sonic opposite of Cosmogramma, trafficking in dreamy and dreary rainy-day indie pop instead of unrelenting electronic textures and rhythms. "Plane" is beautifully contemplative and insular, even as its plunked piano chords and rolling bass line expand outward. The piece is only available online at the moment, so grab it here and be sure to check back for any updates on future releases. [Fader]
