Erykah Badu: "I Wanna Be Where You Are" ft. the Roots (Michael Jackson Cover)

Michael Jackson covers/tributes are a dime a dozen right now since everyone (like 50 Cent, who released two tribute track in 24 hours this weekend) is racing to try to attach their name to his death. But none will beat this cover of "I Wanna Be Where You Are" (from Michael's solo debut, Got to Be There) by Erykah Badu with the Roots on the music. The fact that this could have been recorded before Michael's death and still been just as great is what sets this apart, that and the Roots masterful work on the backing music and Badu's vamping over the song's latter half. The Roots are good, but the technical quality of Erykah Badus vocals on that track is bad..sounds like they used a cheap mic to record her vocals.

This is why I love Ms. Badu. Rock on, sista, rock on! She's probably the only person around these days who could do it justice. Everyone else would just sound completely crazy.
