‘EP 2’ (Prefix Premiere)

Earlier this month the Guardian  premiered the video for “One to Adore” by Plant Plants. It’s the opening track to the London duo’s second EP, EP 2, following last year’s similarly titled EP. “Adore” is also an extraordinarily warm song: the soft singing of Stuart Francis and Howard Whatley coupled with the music’s rounded, stuttering drums give it a wholly welcoming vibe; the guitar and piano only seem to enter at the right places.

This warmth spans the four-track effort, which was produced by Jas Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco, and might be traced back to Plant Plants’ style of intimate electronica. While performing and recording, Francis and Whatley embrace live sampling and other effects that keep them active, as if they’re constantly trying to leak new emotion from their instruments of choice. Songs like “Repeaters” manage to be simple and genuinely sensitive–qualities that plenty of artists, new and old, continue to struggle with.

Below you can stream EP 2, which is out June 18 on This Is Music.
