Elzhi: "Detroit State of Mind"
The release of Elmatic, Detroit rapper Elzhi's reworking of Nas's debut Illmatic, is right around the corner. We've got another morsel off the highly anticipated mixtape today in the form of "Detroit State of Mind," which uses Illmatic's sinister DJ Premier production "N.Y. State of Mind" as a launch pad for the former Slum Village recruit's lyrical flights of fancy. It's risky business taking on one of hip hop's indesputably classic albums, but Elzhi's disgustingly talented on the mic, and we already know all the beats are winners.
