Eleanor Friedberger: "My Mistakes"
Looks like Eleanor Friedberger is taking time off from her day job as the voice of brother-sister indie rock duo the Fiery Furnaces. She has just announced the release of Last Summer, her debut solo album. Friedberger was inspired to cook up her own batch of tunes in the wake of the last Fiery Furnaces album, Take Me Around Again, which saw her and brother Matt turning in solo versions of songs from the prior Fiery Furnaces full length I'm Going Away. Last Summer's lead single "My Mistakes" is a sprightly pop number that pits Friedberger's soulful vocals against a fuzzed out synth and lockstep guitar, piano and drums. Peep the sexy sax solo that closes out the song. Those are in this year, huh?
Last Summer is out July 12 on Merge. Tour dates will be announced soon.
