The retro pop/soul revival is gearing up for a second round lately, with a new song from Amy Winehouse, a successful year for Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, and a release by Duffy titled Endlessly due out at the end of November. The latter appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s show last night (Nov. 4) to play “Well, Well, Well” from that record.
The touchstones remain much the same as they did on her first record—a brash pinch of Lulu’s “Shout,” the specter of Dusty Springfield looming large, and a sizable Petula Clark influence. Strangely, the Roots provided the funked up groove on the recorded version of this song, but didn’t play with Duffy on Fallon.
