You have to imagine that Young Money/Universal decided to push Drake's Thank Me Later debut back again in an attempt to grow more buzz around this track and perhaps even another single. Otherwise, the label(s) is just more or less wasting time as his hype, which hit an all time high last year, could possibly begin to dwindle. The video for "Over" could put a slight delay on that, though, as it's actually pretty entertaining thanks to the visual effects, though some are admittedly corny. The verses are still lacking and something about that hook just doesn't seem to work, but "Over" is growing on me and it's likely the single is growing on the rest of the country, too.
Thank Me Later is due out June 15.
I wasn't crazy about the single initially either, but it grew on me big time. Video for this is pretty cool too
Exactly how I feel. I initially only liked the verses until I realized how goofy some of the punches are, which led me to like the hook more. And now, I don't really love either, yet I enjoy the song as a whole. *confused*
It's amazing how effective repetition can be. His hype must be on the wane, though, right?
Only around the blogs. He's got the hood by the twig and berries lol.
In terms of, say, the blogosphere/music writer hype, yes, I'd say it's down a bit. But in terms of the general population, I think he's waning, but not by much. I listened to the radio last night and heard him numerous times within a three-hour time span.
Damnation, you beat me to it.
i think he's only getting bigger. he pretty much is the next superstar in the world of hip-hop/rnb.
While I agree with you, I just don't think "Over" or "Shut It Down" will be as huge as "Best I Ever Had." But, at this point, it's questionable if he needs another hit like that...I think he does to have true staying power, but that remains to be seen.
Great beat, but I think this is the first Drake hook that isn't stunningly infectious. Certainly pales in comparison to "Fear" or "Houstatlantavegas." I also don't understand why blog types are so upset about the Ebert & Roeper line.
