Here goes the first single off Dr. Dog's Be The Void, the band's sixth LP to be released Feb. 7, 2012. "That Old Black Hole" sees the Philadelphia psych-rockers revisit some melodies and themes also present on their last pair of albums. But here, elephants, eggshells, unsteady boats, mysterious prizes and black holes all make appearances, which allows a kind of carefree, softly surreal folkiness to permeate. The video is mostly footage of a hamster struggling to run on his little wheel. The repeated lines of the chorus gain weight under this image and tie it to the song: "It's like that old black hole, no matter how you try/ You set out each day never to arrive." You can watch and listen to the video below. [SG]
