DJ Shadow: "I Gotta Rokk"
It will be five years this September that DJ Shadow released his previous full-length, The Outsider, an album heavily steeped in hyphy music that turned off and disappointed fans and critics alike. So it kind of makes sense that the DJ/producer would make his proper return that same month with his fourth record, The Less You Know The Better.
Shadow apparently also has a quick-fire EP ready to drop next Tuesday called I Gotta Rokk. It features the two singles he released last summer -- "Def Surrounds Us" and "I've Been Trying" -- along with the title track and remixes of each. He premiered "I Gotta Rokk" last night on BBC Radio 1 and if it doesn't get you excited for new material from the elusive turntablist, I don't know what will. From the panning rawk samples to the crunchy drums, it's everything you would want from Shadow and then some.
