We weren't too familiar with Atlanta rapper Scotty prior to the release of Summer Dreams, though it's become clear after a few listens to the mixtape that he's cut from the same cloth of his fellow ATL residents. We're talking guys like T.I. and Jeezy, minus the swagger of the former and the gravelly vocals of the latter. Scotty successfully finds the middle ground of some of trap-rap's bigger names while showcasing a strong ear for production.
Scotty worked with bluesy boom-bap chemist DJ Burn One for the entirety of Summer Dreams, a wise move if there ever was one. As Burn One displayed on The Ashtray, dude's got an incredible knack for producing organic music that can pack some rock-leaning punch or deep-fried funk 'n' blues.
