Dizzee Rascal

"Holiday" (Audio)

Average Rating: 3.00

"Bonkers," the first single from Dizzee Rascal's upcoming fourth long-player, Tongue "N" Cheek, welded Rascal's liquid flow to a booming Arman Van Helden house beat to mixed results. "Holiday," the second single, does the same but with a Calvin Harris beat, to similarly mixed results. It's not that Dizzee's voice isn't suited for this kind of production (because his Basement Jaxx collabo, "Lucky," is still awesome), it's just that the beats are meant to aurally assault, not to lay back and let Dizzee do the heavy-lifting. He's kind of reduced to being his own hypeman in a way; his verses are buried in the music, and are secondary to the song. Which is a shame.

Tongue "N" Cheek is due out on September 7.
