Anyone who hasn’t kept up with grime star Dizzee Rascal’s career might be surprised at how he sounds now. His new album, Tongue N’ Cheek, is an overt step in the direction of full-on pop, and he appeared on Jools Holland’s show last night (Sept. 22) to promote the record.
He began with a version of “Bonkers,” the Armand Van Helden produced single from the album, which hit the number 1 slot in the U.K. Dizzee gave a typically energetic performance of the song, and followed it with another chart topper, “Holiday.” The hippy playing slide-guitar on “Bonkers” provides one of the most unusual musical collaborations of the year.
